Welcome to the Essendon District Football League (EDFL)! This league is a semi-professional Australian rules football competition based in Essendon, Victoria. It includes teams from the north-west suburbs of Melbourne and has been around since 1930.

History of the EDFL

The EDFL started in 1930 to support the Essendon Football Club. It began with just six clubs, including Essendon Town, Essendon St. John’s, Ascot Vale, Aberfeldie, Moonee Ponds, and Strathmore. Over the years, it has grown into a popular and competitive league.

League Structure

The men's competition has three divisions:

  • Premier Division: The top division with 10 teams.

  • Division 1: The middle division with 11 teams.

  • Division 2: The lower division with 9 teams.

Each year, the lowest-placed teams in the Premier Division and Division 1 are relegated to a lower division, while the winners of Division 1 and Division 2 move up to a higher division.
